They say that before a big storm, there&#8217;s often a short period of time when the weather is really calm and quiet.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But we also use this expression for other things, whenever there&#8217;s a period of quiet and calm right before a period of busy or noisy activity or excitement. A kindergarten teacher might refer to the quiet time before her energetic and noisy students arrive as \u201cthe calm before the storm.\u201d A busy restaurant chef<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">or server might refer to the peaceful moments before lunch time as \u201cthe calm before the storm.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><strong>But have you ever heard the expression \u201cthe calm during the storm?\u201d<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Our latest manga, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.waypoints.jp\/english\/project\/storm-1\/\"><strong>the Storm<\/strong><\/a>,\u201d is based on a story from the Bible (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Mark+4%3A35-41&amp;version=NLT\" rel=\"noopener\">Mark 4:35-41<\/a>) in which the disciples and Jesus had two very different reactions to the storm they found themselves in.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The disciples were really scared. They were freaking out!<\/span><\/p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_image _builder_version=&#8221;4.14.8&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; theme_builder_area=&#8221;post_content&#8221; title_text=&#8221;storm-blog-mid&#8221; src=&#8221;https:\/\/www.waypoints.jp\/english\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/02\/storm-blog-mid.jpg&#8221; hover_enabled=&#8221;0&#8243; sticky_enabled=&#8221;0&#8243; align=&#8221;center&#8221; box_shadow_style=&#8221;preset1&#8243;][\/et_pb_image][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.9.7&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; hover_enabled=&#8221;0&#8243; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; theme_builder_area=&#8221;post_content&#8221; sticky_enabled=&#8221;0&#8243;]<h4><strong>Meanwhile, Jesus was taking a nap. He was sleeping!<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He just wasn&#8217;t worried. He wasn&#8217;t scared. He knew they were going to be alright, so He had enough peace inside to sleep through the storm. He had a \u201ccalm during the storm.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So after the disciples woke Him, Jesus got up and calmed the storm. The disciples, of course, were amazed. And if Jesus is in our \u201cboat\u201d &#8212; our life &#8212; then when we pray, He can do amazing things for us as well.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But maybe that&#8217;s actually not the main point of this story. Did you notice what Jesus said to the disciples?<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><b>&#8220;Why are you afraid? Where\u2019s your faith?&#8221;<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Was Jesus just cranky because they interrupted His nap? Or was He trying to teach them something? Why did He say this?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When disciples woke Jesus up, what did they say?<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><b>&#8220;Teacher, don&#8217;t you care that we&#8217;re going to drown?&#8221;<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was natural that the disciples should be afraid. But where they went wrong was in questioning Jesus\u2019 heart. They doubted if He cared.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After all the time they&#8217;d spent with Jesus, hearing Him teach and seeing Him perform miracles, they still got scared. They still lacked faith.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What Jesus is telling them is that they should have trusted Him. They didn&#8217;t need to worry. Even if He hadn&#8217;t calmed the storm, they would have been OK.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">During our lives we all go through storms. They take many different forms: illness, stress, financial troubles, relationship problems, the death of a loved one, fear and uncertainty about the future\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And the Bible does NOT promise that any of us will be spared those kinds of storms. But the Bible does promise that we don\u2019t have to go through them alone.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One writer (John Ortberg) said it this way:<\/span><\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><b>\u201cPeace doesn\u2019t come from finding a lake with no storms.<\/b><\/h4>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><b>It comes from having Jesus in the boat.\u201d\u00a0<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jesus can make a difference in your life, if you let Him.
