The last few Waypoints stories are based on <\/span>parables<\/b><\/a> \u2014 stories Jesus told when He was teaching.\u00a0<\/span>Among these, two stories are based on the same parable \u2014 commonly known as \u201cThe Good Samaritan.\u201d<\/strong> <\/span><\/p>\n One of these manga<\/a>\u00a0brought the parable into a modern setting in an attempt to make it more relatable. The other one<\/a> shows the original context, and attempts to show how Jesus\u2019 audience would have reacted.<\/span><\/p>\n Jesus\u2019 parables are rich in meaning. But the problem for modern readers is that we\u2019re so far removed from the original context in which these stories were told that we miss some of the nuance and impact they had. We hope<\/span> our adaptations<\/span> help bring these parables to life for the reader, each in different ways.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/span>One thing modern Bible readers may not see is that the parable of the Good Samaritan would have been absolutely shocking<\/strong> to Jesus\u2019 original audience. In \u201c<\/span>Who is my neighbor?<\/span>\u201d set in modern-day Japan, we made the Good Samaritan a homeless woman \u2014 an unexpected<\/strong> hero, to say the least. She\u2019s the kind of person that passers-by ignore.
