What’s the most expensive thing you’ve ever bought?

It’s interesting to see what people are willing to pay for things.

The price for something is determined by a number of things. This includes how common or rare it is, and how many people want or need it. So, something that is truly unique — one of a kind — is likely to be considered very valuable.

But what’s more unique and valuable than people?

This month’s Waypoints comic, “Lost and Found,” was inspired by a parable Jesus told (in Luke 15:4-7), and is a picture of just how much we’re worth to God.

The shepherd in this story went to a lot of trouble to find that one lost sheep. Some people might say that losing one sheep isn’t a big loss when you’ve still got a hundred. But that’s not how the shepherd felt. To a good shepherd, each and every sheep is important.

And this is how God sees us, too.

We all want to believe that we’re valuable. That our lives matter and are worth living. We may look for value in other things. But our true worth, our true value, comes from God. He made us, and He loves us. And He showed us that love through Jesus.

The Bible puts it this way:

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son [Jesus], that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)

So what’s your worth? As it turns out, quite a lot!
